Access Statement For Berkeley House, Lewes
Introduction
Berkeley House is a Georgian townhouse in the centre of Lewes with many restaurants and pubs within a five minute walk. We have two double bedrooms on the second floor and one twin, with a double and a single bed (hence can be twin or triple) on the third floor. We do not have a lift. All rooms have en-suite shower room and W.C. Rooms can be let for single occupancy at a reduced rate.
Pre-Arrival

- Our website (www.berkeleyhouselewes.co.uk) contains a great deal of information - tariff, road maps, etc.
- We have one off-street parking space (charge) or free vouchers for on-street parking anywhere around Berkeley House except on the High Street or in public pay-and-display car parks.
- Lewes railway station is a less than ten-minute walk, or two minutes by taxi. There are direct trains to London (one hour), Gatwick Airport (30 minutes), Brighton (20 minutes) and Eastbourne (25minutes).
- Bus stops are less than a one minute's walk, for buses to Brighton, Uckfield and Tunbridge Wells.
- Because of the steps up from the pavement to the front door and the stairs within the building, Berkeley House is not suitable for wheelchair access.
Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
- If you have booked our off-street parking space, we suggest guests pull up opposite Berkeley House and we will assist with luggage and also show you where the car space is located - approx 100m.
- If you are going to park on the street then you must display the voucher we will give you, on your dashboard. It is valid on the day of arrival until 10am the following morning. Further vouchers are available for longer stays.
Main Entrance & Reception
- The are four steps up to the front door which is always locked. Once guests have checked-in we give them keys so that they can come and go as they please.
- There is a Guests' lounge - the lounge is adjacent to the front door off the hall on the ground floor.
- There is a service bell in the hall.
Public Areas - General (Internal)
- The Breakfast Room is on the ground floor.
- There is a Roof Terrace which guests are welcome to use at their own risk. The door to the terrace is up three steps on the second floor. Garden chairs for use on the terrace are provided adjacent to the terrace door.
Public Areas – W.C.
- All rooms have en-suite shower rooms and W.C. There is no public W.C. available.
Restaurant / Dining Room, Bar & Lounges, Take Away & Cafe
- The Breakfast Room on the ground floor has individual centre-leg tables for each room.
- There are chairs with arms and without which can moved as desired.
- There is a menu on each table.
- We do not play background music in the Breakfast Room.

- There is a Roof Terrace (already mentioned) with access on the second floor.

Bedrooms
- Bedrooms are on the second and third floors. There is no lift and hence Berkeley House is not suitable for wheelchair users or anyone with mobility difficulties.
- All beds are 4'6" doubles. In the Family Room on the third floor in addition to the 4'6" double bed there is also a 3'0" single bed.
- All three bedrooms have en-suite shower-room and W.C.; central heating; electric table fans for use in the summer if desired; TV; alarm clock; tea and coffee making facility.
- All bedrooms have fitted carpet. The shower-rooms/W.C. have vinyl flooring.

Grounds and Gardens
- There is a south facing roof terrace which guests may use at their own risk. Access is up three steps from the second floor landing.
- Folding garden chairs are available at the entrance to the Roof Terrace. there is a small table permanently on the Roof Terrace.
Additional Information
- Berkeley House is a Georgian town house Listed Grade II, located in a quiet street in the centre of the town.
- There is a centralised fire alarm system with smoke detectors in all rooms and public areas. Break-glass call points are also placed at strategic locations as are fire extinguishers. Loud bells ring continuously in the event that the system is triggered. In the event of a power failure the alarm bells can still ring and emergency lighting comes on in strategic places over the staircase throughout the building.
